Being Authentic
True to yourself.
The most important thing for us to understand is that there is an intrinsic nature and behaviour we are born with. Can I change that? Or, to rephrase: should I change in order to fit into the community? The answer is “No”.
- “If I am not a people person, I will not be comfortable in crowds.”
- “If my idea of fun is reading a book, you will not find me at the pub.”
- “If I am an outdoor person, you will not find me at home or in a desk job.”
Attention, recruiters! Is an aptitude test one of your parameters for recruitment? As the old adage says, “you can’t make a fish climb a tree”. This applies even to recruitment drives for leadership and top management roles.
I will leave that for you to think about and comment on.
Retaining your authenticity
Coming back to the topic of authenticity: in soft skills training, we stress that you should retain your authenticity. The training programs are not designed to change your basic persona. Instead, soft skills training helps you cultivate habits and attitudes that will help you on your growth path. We help you build confidence. The choice to change, and to inculcate habits that are transformational in nature, will hold you in good stead in the long run.
You may be an introvert, but you will still work in an environment that requires people skills. You might be nervous about taking the stage, but you will still need to make that winning presentation. You will work with young and old alike, and you will need interpersonal skills to make your presence felt.
Why is soft skills training essential?
To fuel you with power, to be that strong and confident individual. Your environment, your gender, your lineage, your education, your experiences and your belief systems all add up to what makes you tick today. Soft skill development takes you notches up, to higher self-esteem, a winning attitude and progressive growth.
Skill training empowers you to perform better.
